healing process…

June 5, 2011 | Posted in humility | 3 comments

From my previous post you may have diagnosed yourself with the same disease that I discovered I have. Do not be discouraged! I feel that we all in some way suffer from the sin of pride and self-centeredness. The key is to move forward and in your conviction take action. To continue the medical analogy, this disease is in desperate need of treatment…

How do you treat this disease called pride?

Begin with a proper view of yourself..seeing yourself rightly in reference to God and others and voluntarily humbling yourself towards both for the right reasons.

What is that appropriate view of self (by Stuart Scott)?

-We are so VERY far beneath God and totally unworthy before Him (Ps 8:1-4)
-We are no better or no worse than others, because we are all desperately wicked and totally incapable of anything worthwhile in God’s sight on our own (John 15:5)
-There is nothing that anyone has accomplished or possesses that  they should take credit for themselves (1 Corinthians 4:7)
-We basically have no worth in and of ourselves, but God has given us a place we do not deserve and has set His love on us anyway (Ephesians 2:4-7)
-God has rightly and wisely given everyone an allotment of ability that is to be used for His glory and for the purposes He has planned (Eph 2:10)

In other words…

We must truly confess and repent about our pride…(Job is a great example. If you are so motivated, read Job 42:2-6).  Then we put on humility…daily. Daily acknowledging that God is the center of our lives. We can serve Him through our service to others.

My prayers is that we can do the following:

Identify the disease.
             Repent.
             Take on Humility DAILY.
Move forward to be used for His Glory and Purposes!!!

This information on pride came from the booklet, “From Pride to Humility: A Biblical Perspective” by Stuart Scott

Yay, Heather! This has been my same journey as a mom too. Being outnumbered by little people forces you to realize how inadequate you are and how much you need the Lord. I’ve found there is even JOY in this humbling, because we identify more deeply with Christ. He poured out His life for us in the ultimate way. Now we have the chance to walk in His footsteps by pouring out our lives for those He has given to us. Plus, those chubby faces are just so worth it! :) Thanks for writing and helping us remember what’s truly important.
