Bruce and I took the most incredible trip to southern California last weekend. As we boarded the airplane (without checking strollers at the gate or lugging over-flowing diaper bags or getting “those” glares from the other passengers) we were trying to remember the last time we had flown together alone without kids… 2009. Heather, I so appreciated your comments re: our inadequacy to portray those intimate moments we experience in God’s Presence. I want to share them, but wonder if I ever get it across the way I experienced it. So, thank you for that encouragement!!

    Did y’all go to Laguna Beach? Pretty sure I recognize the coastline in your pics. Reid and I lived there for a year after we got married – just two blocks inland from the main beach area. We go back every July and I just love it there. So glad y’all were able to get a chance to get away – such a special time together – and to a special place :) Good for you!

Do You Trust Me? {lesson from the Horse Whisperer}

February 5, 2013 | Posted by GodCenteredMom on mothering, relationship with God / Tagged: horse whisperer, Monty Roberts, trust | 4 comments

When Knox arrived a year ago, my other three little guys experienced chaos and upheaval. For a solid 6 months (2 months before the birth, at least 4 months after) stood a tired and highly emotional mom. Our relationships suffered. My boys just didn’t trust me. Eyes questioned my harsh tone. Bodies leaned away from my reach. They didn’t believe I had their best interest in ...

There are so many stories to share with you from what’s been going on in the Mac home ; funny stories, injurious ones, happy-news ones… But first I want to share this particularly story from my past (my pre-kids, pre-Dallas days). Susan stood out among my graduate school speech-language pathology clients. Each semester we were assigned 3-4 clients. By graduation we were required to have seen ...

The Value of the Gift Increases with the Anticipation

December 24, 2012 | Posted by GodCenteredMom on gospel, Holidays, relationship with God / Tagged: Christmas, Church Age, Dispensationalism, Second Coming | 1 comment

I grew up in a ‘wake up first thing and open presents in your pjs’ kind of family.  My little brother and I rarely overslept.  Having the love language of gifts, my father (and therefore us) found great delight on Christmas day. How could I forget the year my requested Barbie dream house sat next to the piano? Or the year we discovered two full-size go-carts ...

September 11, 2012 | Posted by GodCenteredMom on God-centered, hellomornings, relationship with God, replacing "me" with "He" / Tagged: Be Still, devotions, iPhone alarms, personal retreat | 11 comments

It appears (from the comments on my last post) that it’s not just me who desires to sit at God’s feet. It’s not just me who struggles to find time to “be still” in the midst of full schedules & endless demands. So I’d like to dedicate this post to brainstorming ways to “be still”. Here ...
