I love what she said about not equating having joy with feeling good all the time. I often feel exhausted and worn out from the constant of taking care of my littles day in and day out, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have joy and be grateful for them in the midst of that!

yes! so true Melinda! still hard to choose gratitude and joy in the midst of the long days. . .but life isn’t about arriving to perfection but about the journey of surrendering our comfort and convenience. thanks for listening!!

As a mom with 5 children ages 9 and under, this so resonated with me. Being a wife, a mom, a homeschool teacher, someone with thyroid disease who seems to be constantly reeling from childbirth, and thoroughly exhausted with all the things, this episode breathed life into my lungs. I’m going to go back and listen to the previous episode about overcoming being an angry mom because I find myself so frustrated many days, whether it’s with myself or my children. The mention of control in this episode also perked my ears because that too is my nature. Thank you so much for this episode.

I’m so grateful it was an encouragement to you Kim. Praying for rest for your soul. thank you for listening!

Encouraged by September’s wisdom on rest. It’s not something to be ashamed of or feel guilt over. The suggestion to step away from tasks and commitments to heal is a really good one! As mentioned, even Jesus needed time away. One thing worth mentioning though is seeking medical and psychological help if needed for the physical and mental exhaustion. Postpartum depression and maternal distress is real and should be ruled out or treated. I think all of tips and suggestions given in this podcast is great but when a mom is breaking down emotionally and mentally it is a battle to do anything, really. With help and Biblical counsel she can see begin to see that rest is attainable and try some of these suggestions.

Most definitely agree Betsy!! So many other episodes I’ve done we’ve encouraged moms to pursue counseling but definitely good to mention it in this context too! Thank you!

When you need encouragement to rest…

Earlier this week I shared the truth God gave me on my flight to Chicago about national security…as a nation  under God. In God. With God. True security in Him alone. And you may have been curious…Where was Heather going? Why was she in Chicago? Well, here is the rest of the story…

After the Color Guard ...

Yes! I’m picturing you in that grace bubble too…and picturing the huge smile on God’s face because he delights in you. Thanks for this!

Very encouraging. Much needed it today! 🙂 I love the statement, you wrote “It is His unmerited favor (grace) that holds me center.” I TOTALLY AGREE with it! 🙂 THANKS!

AMEN. Again Heather, by God’s grace, your words have helped me to exhale! Grace. Amazing grace. I love the pictures of His love for us your friends encouraged you with. I fall victim to the Galatians mentality often…”having begun with the Spirit, but then trying to attain the goal by human effort.” Gal 3:3. Praying we are overwhelmed by His love and delight in us, and that His grace compels us, not our human effort. Love this friend, and all you are learning, and sharing!

Heather, I’m so humbled by your story. The Lord has been bringing me to my knees, simply asking me to delight in Him and rest in His presence; but I’be been trying so hard to achieve His peace and His delight, that I’ve lost sight of His delight in me. Oh what joy there is in allowing ourselves to stop trying and simply embrace the beautiful daughters we are to the One who gave us life and blesses us with His peace [moment by moment]! True delight! 🙂

“To sit and dwell and soak in His love.” <— Sounds like a good plan to me!

When you need rest, sit secure between His shoulders

The first time I met her I wasn’t a big fan. I had interviewed the pediatrician, not his nurse. Her lack of eye contact, abrupt manner, and apparent dislike for her job were irrelevant at this point. According to “What to Expect the First Year”, my one week old, first-born son required a doctor’s appointment. It was too late to find another doctor just because ...

As I read this, I kept picturing {forgive me for this!} Sebastian riding on Falcor {think The Never Ending Story}, finally smiling, triumphant — no longer timid and afraid. SO thankful for a God who carries us!

LOVE the neverending story! Totally know the scene you are picturing…great example!

24 hours of ceasing

September 6, 2011 | Posted by GodCenteredMom on God-centered, humility / Tagged: 10 Commandments, Ceasing, Rest, Sabbath | 3 comments

I haven’t killed anyone.  Stolen anything. I don’t think I’ve lied to anyone lately.

But when was the last time I rested for 24 hours straight? Have I taken a break from working, doing, striving for 24 solid hours?

Did you know that taking a break for 24 hours (aka “keeping the Sabbath”) is one of the 10 commandments?

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  Six days you ...
